Fifth graders learn how to tear apart a refrigerator from JACO Environmental's director of energy and environmental programs Michael Dunham (right). Students from Redwood Elementary visited JACO Environmental, a national appliance demanufacturer where old, energy-wasting refrigerators and freezers are deconstructed into recyclable materials Wednesday, May 2 2012 in Salt Lake City. Older appliances can require three times the electricity to run than newer models built to higher standards. JACO's advanced process reclaims 95 percent of materials in the old units for recycling into a variety of products.
