Utah Marine Norberto Mendez Hernandez died Sunday, July 7, 2011, while conducting combat operations in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. The 22-year-old graduate of Logan High School was assigned to 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division in Camp Pendleton, Calif. His battalion was assigned to the Sangin district, where Taliban fighters were attempting to regain control.
