“We knew at a very young age that he was going to be a police officer or a soldier. It was who he has always been. And so I guess he died doing what he always wanted to do.” — Kim Austin-Oliver, sister Martinez, 33, of West Jordan, died of wounds sustained when his unit came in contact with enemy forces using an improvised explosive device and small arms fire. The Army staff sergeant was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 7th Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division in Schweinfurt, Germany.
