"There are two types of stories there are Payne's stories and there are others and all others paled in comparison." Benjamin Marx, commanding officer Payne, 26, of Howell, was killed when a roadside bomb detonated near his Humvee. The Army specialist, who had done a previous tour in Iraq with the Marine Corps, was assigned to the Army's 497th Transportation Company, 44th Corps Support Battalion, 1st Corps Support Command, in Fort Lewis, Wash.
