Hill airman dies in Afghanistan
A Hill Air Force Base airman died Thursday in Afghanistan.
Sgt. Kristoffer M. Solesbee, 32, of Citrus Heights, Calif., was killed in the Shorabak district of Kandahar province in Afghanistan, the Department of Defense said.
Base officials in Utah announced the death Friday evening. Solesbee was a member of the 775th Civil Engineer Squadron, Explosive Ordnance Disposal Flight.
He and another airman from Iowa died from wounds when their unit was attacked by enemy forces with an improvised explosive device.
A news release from Hill stated: "It's with tremendous regret we announce the loss of one of our own today," said Col. Patrick Higby, 75th Air Base Wing commander. "During this difficult time, our thoughts and prayers are with Sergeant Solesbee's family and friends, as well as the entire explosive ordnance disposal community. His sacrifice and service are not forgotten and he will be greatly missed."
