Sgt. Mason Douglas Whetstone, 30, a Utah native, died July 17 in Baghdad, the Pentagon has announced Whetstone died as a result of noncombat injuries, a military spokesperson said Tuesday.
   
    Officials would give no other details other than to say the "incident" is under investigation.
   
    Whetstone served in the Army from 1990 to 1994, and re-enlisted in August 1999. At the time he re-entered the Army, he indicated that he was from Jackson, Fla.
   
    He was born at Hill Air Force Base, the spokesperson said. Whetstone was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 58th Aviation (Forward), an air traffic control group headquartered in Hanau, Germany.
