HEY CAME FROM all walks of life.
    They were police officers and mechanics. Students and teachers. Full-time soldiers and reservists.
    They were Navajo, Tibetan, Mexican, American. Natural-born citizens and immigrants.
    They wore the uniforms of the Army, Marine Corps, Air Force and Navy. And two, as civilian contractors, wore no uniforms at all.
    They were teenagers and grandfathers. College graduates and high-school dropouts.
    They died in firefights and roadside bomb attacks. In accidents and of natural causes. In suicide bombings and sniper attacks.
    They died over the deserts of Kuwait, in the mountains of Afghanistan, in the cities of Iraq and while treating the wounded in Qatar.
    They were Utahns - some for life, others for only a few years. And since Sept. 11, 2001, The Salt Lake Tribune has counted 68 of their number killed while serving in the nation's ongoing wars.
