From the Wasatch Front to southern Utah, low-income families with a blend of citizens and undocumented immigrants are receiving state benefits.

   That means the household members who are citizens, often the U.S.-born children, make the household eligible for financial help each month through food stamps and the updated form of welfare known as Temporary Assistance for Needy Families. The citizens may also qualify for insurance either through Medicaid or CHIP, the Children's Health Insurance Program.

   The data is collected by state officials, who ask for household members' immigration status in order to determine a family's eligibility for various benefits.
